Ellen Reid Smith is “Cowgirl Smart”

Ellen Reid Smith has been in awe of cowgirls most of her life. As one of the youngest female directors at American Airlines and youngest vice president at IBM, she had few female mentors, so she modeled herself after the strongest trailblazers she knew—cowgirls who settled the Wild West. As a master storyteller, Ellen now shares her inspirational cowgirl stories and lessons for success with audiences everywhere. From bankers to ranchers and business owners to moms, everyone loves these stories of gutsy Wild West women. Her funny, cowgirl delivery features lessons for roping more out of life and your business in a manner that both inspires and entertains groups of all sizes. “I’m not surprised women love these stories,” says Ellen, “but I’m always amazed at the number of men who enjoy Cowgirl Smarts and want to tell me about a cowgirl matriarch in their family.”

Two books in the Cowgirl Smarts series are available now: Cowgirl Smarts: How to Rope a Kick-Ass Life and The Cowgirl Smarts Coloring Book. She is releasing The Cowgirl Smarts Travel Guide in Winter 2005 and a fourth book Cowgirl Smarts: How to Kick-Ass in Business in Spring 2005. While some consider Cowgirl Smarts motivational reading, it’s also a cowgirl history book. Cowgirls featured in the books are based on years of historical research from over 75 libraries, museums and historical societies across 15 Western states.

Ellen’s motto is, "Cowgirl Smarts is a state of mind, not a state of horse." No one could emulate this more than Ellen who has used her Cowgirl Smarts as an executive at two Fortune 100 companies, as a high-tech leader and as a consulting guru. She may have worn a blue suit by day, but she always treasured her cowgirl ways. Ellen earned her guru status in customer loyalty marketing by devoting 18 years to designing customer loyalty strategy, giving seminars about customer loyalty around the globe, and writing a best-selling, international book on customer loyalty called e-Loyalty:How to Keep Customers Coming Back to Your Website, that is published in nine languages. “Businesses can learn a lot from cowgirls,” says Ellen. “Being loyal and engendering loyalty is the cowgirl way.”

Ellen is a featured writer in both business and leisure publications. She equally enjoys writing about cowgirl history and marketing strategy issues. Her work has been featured in over 40 publications such as BrandWeek, Brilliant, Business Week, Entrepreneur and The Wall Street Journal.

When not cowgirling, Ellen is the CEO of Reid Smith & Associates, Inc., a customer loyalty marketing agency in Austin, Texas see www.ReidSmith.com .
